Authentic Review of TBA Escapes in Morocco

|

I’ve been a solo travel enthusiast since my first-ever solo trip to Spain in 2017. Since then, I’ve made it my personal mission to explore the world solo, and honestly, I haven’t yet come across a destination where I’ve felt unsafe or uncomfortable (knock on wood!). That said, I do an almost embarrassing amount of research and prep before booking a trip. Safety is always top of mind, and there are places I’ve thought twice about visiting alone.

Morocco was one of those places.

As a solo female traveler, I couldn’t ignore the warnings about potential street harassment in the souks or the occasional aggressive shopkeepers. While experiences differ based on things like gender, sexual orientation, or personal comfort levels, the thought of navigating the charming chaos of Morocco gave me pause.

But what worried me more than safety was the sheer logistics of a trip like this. Morocco has everything a traveler could dream of – beautiful cities, the vast Sahara Desert, and rich culture. I wanted to see all of it – from the top of Tangier, down to the Sahara Desert, and everything in between.

The catch is that Morocco’s public transportation isn’t exactly the smoothest. Sure, you could hop on an eight-hour train from Marrakech to Fez, but if you’re not fluent in the local language or not very confident in your navigation skills, it’s daunting. While totally possible to plan this trip solo, I was hoping to have a bit of help.

My Skepticism About Tour Groups

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t jumping at the idea of joining a tour group. I’m a planner by nature and enjoy crafting my own itineraries. Plus, my last experience on a group tour was … not my vibe. Forty retirees, megaphones, endless headcounts, and a bus that spent more time waiting than moving.

And then, I’m also a huge introvert. I like (most) people and being social, but my social battery depletes fast. I recharge by having alone time to decompress. The thought of spending a week or more glued to a group of strangers isn’t my idea of a great time.

But after some extensive Googling, TBA Escapes caught my eye and it turned out to be exactly what I didn’t know I was looking for.

Why TBA Escapes Stands Out

To back up for a minute, I had been following Kiki of The Blonde Abroad on Instagram for years. I loved her content and related to a lot of it, as a fellow solo female traveler. She’s one of the OG travel influencers and really paved the way for other women in this industry who were looking to make a career out of blogging. When I saw she launched her own all-women travel company, I was pretty sold.

TBA Escapes caters to like-minded female travelers and focuses on destinations that are stunning but tricky to navigate (think Morocco, Jordan, and Egypt). Each trip promises small groups, bespoke experiences, and at least one “I can’t believe I’m here moment,” like camel riding at sunset in the Sahara.

My Itinerary

Here’s a quick overview of what my Morocco tour looked like:

  • Day 1: Arrive in Tangier, welcome group dinner
  • Day 2: Guided tour of Tangier’s Medina and museums
  • Day 3: Travel to Chefchaouen, guided tour of the blue city
  • Day 4: Head to Fez, cooking class in the evening
  • Day 5: Guided tour of Fez
  • Day 6: Drive to the Sahara Desert
  • Day 7: Buggy rides, camel trek at sunset
  • Day 8: Visit Aït Ben Haddou, tour a Kasbah and rug co-op
  • Day 9: Travel to Marrakech, free time, and group dinner
  • Day 10: Guided Marrakech tour, including Musée Yves Saint Laurent
  • Day 11: Sunrise hot air balloon ride, farewell dinner
  • Day 12: Depart

Accommodations ranged from charming riads to luxe desert camps. Each spot was thoughtfully chosen, blending comfort with authentic Moroccan charm.

The Cost

Let’s not sugarcoat it: TBA Escapes tours are a splurge. Prices in 2025 range from $6,200 to $12,200 for 7-12 days. It’s not budget travel by any stretch, but you’re paying for serious luxury. Think five-star accommodations, private transportation, and curated, high-impact experiences.

Inclusions & Exclusions

Included: Transportation to and from the airport for your international flights*, all ground transportation throughout the trip, accommodations, the majority of meals and drinks, and most excursions.

Excluded: International flights, travel insurance, tips, some meals/drinks, souvenirs, and some excursions. For example, on my trip to Morocco, it was additional to take part in the hot air balloon ride outside of Marrakech and buggy rides in the Sahara Desert.

*You can arrive prior to the tour starting or add days on after the tour ends, but airport transportation will not be included for this.

Pros of TBA Escapes

So, what makes TBA Escapes worth it? A lot:

  • Meticulous Planning: Every detail was handled, from airport pickups to surprise stops (hello, unplanned dinner at Nobu). It’s obvious how much work, research, and planning goes into these trips and I’ve never felt so taken care of.
  • Amazing People: The other women on the tour were incredible – fellow adventurers who became fast friends.
  • Thoughtful Hosts: My host and guide went above and beyond. When I got sick one night in Fez, they sent me back to the riad with meds and checked in constantly. True lifesavers.
  • Dreamy Accommodations: Staying at places like Riad Yasmine in Marrakech felt like something out of a travel magazine, and we had the riad all to ourselves!

Cons of TBA Escapes

Honestly, there really aren’t many but I’ll nitpick a little:

  • Room Sharing: You’ll share a room with a stranger unless you’re traveling with a friend or family member and request to share. While the matches were great (my roommate was very chill and a match personality-wise), I missed having my own space. I did, of course, know in advance that I’d be sharing a room — this didn’t come as a surprise. I am also conscious of how much more expensive this would have made the trip.
  • Long Drives: Some travel days, like the 10-hour trek from Fez to the Sahara, were exhausting. We knew about this ahead of time and there were plenty of bathroom and food breaks, but breaking these up or adding flight options would be a game-changer.

Final Verdict

TBA Escapes is 100% worth it. They’ve mastered the art of balancing curated luxury with a sense of adventure. I’d book another trip with them in a heartbeat.

Want to join?

If you want to snag a spot on an upcoming TBA Escapes tour, be prepared to act fast! Each tour is designed for a small number of women, making availability limited – spots can sell out in just a day or two.

The process begins with filling out an “application” where you’ll answer questions about your international travel experience, your goals and expectations for the trip, and include a link to your social media to verify your identity. According to the website, these tours operate on an invitation-only basis. Once your application is approved, you’ll gain access to purchase spots on open tours and receive notifications when new dates are announced. My application was approved quickly, so I can’t speak to how often (if ever) they are rejected or the reasons why.

Upon acceptance, you’ll need to immediately pay a non-refundable deposit to secure your spot. The rest of the payment can be made upfront or split into installments over several months, but the full cost must be paid before the trip begins.

As a Type A traveler, I appreciate having as much information as possible before heading off, and TBA Escapes did not disappoint. Once I was confirmed for the Morocco trip, the host created a private Facebook group exclusively for our attendees, allowing us to connect, share questions, and get to know each other beforehand. A WhatsApp group was also set up for additional communication and updates. Well in advance of departure, I received a detailed trip itinerary covering every aspect of the journey—from accommodations and daily activities to logistics and emergency contacts—along with a thorough packing checklist. This level of organization made the pre-trip process seamless and stress-free.
