Frequently Asked Questions
Below you’ll find some of the questions that I’m asked most often!
Is this blog your full time job?
While I would love to write about travel full time, I work in public relations! I got my degree in Public Relations, Advertising, and Applied Communications from Seton Hall University and have worked across nearly every industry, with technology startups being my bread and butter.
How often do you travel?
I typically plan two “big” international trips each year. In between these larger adventures, I love taking smaller weekend getaways within the country.
How do you travel so often while working full time?
I get this question a lot! I’m lucky to have unlimited PTO at my job, which gives me the flexibility to take a couple of big international trips each year and sprinkle in smaller getaways whenever I can. That said, “unlimited” PTO isn’t truly unlimited—it’s about being strategic. I plan my trips around holidays, long weekends, and quieter work periods, and I’m always mindful of balancing my workload so I can enjoy my travels without stressing.
How are you affording this?
Travel is a top priority for me, and I’ve made it an integral part of my lifestyle. I budget carefully and often make conscious choices to prioritize experiences over material things.
I also look for ways to travel smart—using travel rewards programs and credit cards, finding deals on flights and accommodations, and sometimes traveling during off-peak seasons. Travel is an investment in my personal growth, and I find it worth every penny!
Do you feel safe traveling alone?
Absolutely! However, there are places I would consider to be “safer” for solo female travelers than others. For those than I feel less safe, I make sure to take precautionary measures and do plenty of research ahead of time.
What’s it like traveling with your dog Jameson? Any tips for dog-friendly trips?
Traveling with Jameson is amazing, but it definitely takes extra planning! He’s a bit of an introvert (like me), so I’m always hyper-aware of his needs. I choose outdoorsy, quieter locations where he can explore without getting overwhelmed by crowds or other dogs. I also keep our schedule relaxed—no overpacking the itinerary—so we both have plenty of downtime. The key is really tuning into what makes your dog happy and comfortable.
Why did you start The Type A Travels?
I started The Type A Travels to share my love for travel with others. Friends and family are always asking me for tips, itineraries, and suggestions for their trips, so I thought, why not put it all in one place? This blog is also my creative outlet—something low-pressure and fun that’s totally different from my day job. It’s a way for me to combine my love of planning with my passion for exploring the world and (hopefully!) inspire others to do the same.
What is your favorite country that you’ve visited so far?
South Africa, hands down! I loved absolutely everything about this country. It’s stunningly beautiful, from the beaches to the mountains to the savannas. I felt safe and welcomed everywhere I went—the people are so warm and friendly. Getting to see wildlife like elephants, lions, and rhinos up close was a dream come true. It’s one of those places that stays with you long after you’ve left.
What was your first solo trip?
In 2017, I took my first ever solo trip to Spain, where I spent four days exploring the vibrant streets and cultural gems of Madrid, followed by four days soaking up the unique charm of Barcelona. This was only the second time I had ever traveled abroad, making the experience both exciting and a bit nerve-wracking!
Do you ever get lonely traveling alone?
Not at all! For me, there’s a big difference between being alone and being lonely. It took some time to get there, but I’ve grown to love being by myself. It’s freeing, empowering, and honestly, I really enjoy my own company. Plus, solo travel doesn’t always mean you’re alone—you end up meeting so many other travelers along the way. I’ve made friends from all over the world, and those connections make the experience even more special.
What’s the most challenging experience you’ve had while traveling?
Maybe not the most challenging, but I recently got my first-ever case of COVID (after nearly 4 years!) while in Mallorca. It was such a bummer—I felt awful and had to miss out on a lot of amazing things I’d planned. It wasn’t fun, but it was a reminder that sometimes travel doesn’t go as planned, and you just have to roll with it!
How do you decide where to go next?
It’s tough because there are SO many places on my list! I usually consider a mix of factors, like what time of year I’m planning the trip and the weather at the destination. I also think about what I want out of the trip—do I want a beach getaway, an adventure-packed trip, or something more nature-focused? Then there’s the practical stuff, like how much time I’ll need and how much I can realistically take off. It’s a little bit of strategy and a lot of daydreaming!
